Ambi Climate x Amazon Alexa – Now Available!

If you’ve somehow managed to miss the memo about Amazon Alexa, our guess is you’ve been living under a rock. Alexa is Amazon’s voice control system, which has taken over the Smart Home with a multitude of essential integrations. Now, it has one more on that list!

Alexa is a breeze to operate – using only your voice and leaving your smartphone aside. All you have to do is say “Alexa” (or the devices’ other names: “Echo”, “Amazon” or “Computer”), followed by the command you wish to perform, based on the device, and magic! It will be done. All you have to do is make sure you’ve properly set up the services or devices you wish to use with Alexa, and then find the right commands for a seamless experience. In the Smart Home, Alexa is especially meaningful since it lets you control your connected devices without having to take out your phone and launch the app, essentially cutting back the time you need to spend on daily tasks; everything from switching on lights, searching online, playing music or creating to-do lists, with the number of available commands growing by the minute!

Alexa Ambi post

After months of testing and hard work, the newest addition (and one we’re particularly proud of) is the Ambi Climate & Alexa integration!

The integration is now LIVE and public – all you have to do is go to your Amazon Alexa app (iOS or Android), search for “Ambi Climate” under Skills, follow the steps and you’re good to go! There are various commands you can use for Alexa x Ambi:

  1. Turn your device/s on or off
  2. Set a default device, in case you have multiple ones on your Ambi app, so that you don’t need to specify that default location when commanding Alexa
  3. Give feedback about how you feel so that Ambi can learn and adjust the air conditioner accordingly
  4. Ask Alexa about the current temperature based on Ambi Climate’s sensor data

All commands must be “Ask Ambi” + command you wish to perform, and Alexa will do the rest for you. Get rid of your phone and make using Ambi Climate even easier – we didn’t think it was possible, but it is!

Are you ready to try it out? Get going and let us know how you like it!

This does not work very well. I have serious issues getting it to recognise the names I use. Anything with more than 1 word, eg Bedroom 2, doesn’t get detected too well and it says no device called bedroom and ignores the 2. I have HA-Bridge on my home automation and that works 99% of the time so it’s not a voice recognition issue.

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi David!
First off, let me say I’m sorry you’ve experienced some trouble with the Alexa integration. Normally we haven’t seen issues with 2-word device names (e.g. Meeting Room, Kids Room), which we’ve tested in the past. We just ran a test and seems that Alexa may be confused with the word “Two”/”Too”, which is why it tries to affect “Bedroom” and then fails. What we would suggest is changing the device name; this will most likely solve the issue – please let us know if this worked for you and if you have any other questions don’t hesitate!

      • Herman says:

Same issue here. After change device name to single word : “Bedroom” without any space, it can be recognized for command. Although when using two words “Bed room” Alexa recognized available device but can not deploy command

        • Ambi Climate says:

Hi Herman, sorry to hear about this bit of trouble – we’re always working to perfect the integration and make it as seamless as possible for our users. Sometimes it’s a matter of semantics Alexa doesn’t recognize, who knows! Glad to hear you were able to resolve this though.

  2. Vincent Tang says:

I successfully enable the skill but never discover the AmbiClimate 2 in the Smart Home page. I also find that it is not categorised as a Smart Home skill. Can you do a video demo to teach how it works with Alexa?

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi Vincent,
Thanks for your comment. We are always working to improve the skill and perfect it. We will do our best to create a video once the skill is better implemented!

  3. Necdet Ersoy says:

Did you guys test this skill before publishing it? It has not worked properly once. Alexa doesn’t recognize the words, it does not even recognize Ambi. I had same problems as the users above and it is not an Alexa issue as it understands the words quite well in other skills

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi Necdet,
First off, let me apologize for the frustration this is causing you. I totally get it and want to let you know it’s very important for us to investigate this matter, as we’re endlessly working to make the Ambi+Alexa experience better. We’d like to see exactly what happens and dig into the issue – I’ve arranged for someone in our support team to handle this, so we can work this out together. Could you please email us at Thank you and sorry again!

  4. Ali says:

Thank you for achieving this milestone. We are looking for Smartthings and Google Assistant integration.

    Best luck.

  5. Richard says:

The Alexa integration works well, but it is difficult to know what command words will be recognized. For example “Alexa, ask Ambi to turn on the a.c. in bedroom” works. But, if I say “Alexa, ask Ambi to turn on the heat in bedroom”, it turns on the a.c.

Can you publish an ongoing list of commands on your blog so we know what can be said and how to say it? Again, for example, not all commands are Alexa, Ask Ambi + command. There is also Alexa, tell Ambi it’s cold.

    Thank you.

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi Richard!
Thank you for your comment. We are currently in the process of improving the skill and the attached commands, to make it easier for users to control Ambi using Alexa. We hear you and are working on it! Once we implement the changes we will create a list of all possible commands and update this blog post to include the link. Please make sure to check back soon for the update!

    • Ambi Climate says:

By the way, for now, while we prepare the changes and the list, you can also get a list of commands by invoking “Alexa, launch Ambi” or “Alexa, ask Ambi for help”. Hope this helps!

  6. Steve Greenley says:

I’m in New Zealand. I can’t seem to find Ambi Climate in the Smart Home Skills list.

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi Steve!
We’re currently under review to add the skill in NZ – hopefully it will be quick! In the meantime if you’d like to use it you can always switch to the US or UK version as it is already active there.

  7. Yuki says:

Hi, I’m enjoying to use Ambi every day!
Do you have a plan to add the skill in Japan? It will be great if we can use it!
