If you’ve somehow managed to miss the memo about Amazon Alexa, our guess is you’ve been living under a rock. Alexa is Amazon’s voice control system, which has taken over the Smart Home with a multitude of essential integrations. Now, it has one more on that list!

Alexa is a breeze to operate – using only your voice and leaving your smartphone aside. All you have to do is say “Alexa”, followed by the command you wish to perform, based on the device, and magic! It will be done. everything from switching on lights and searching online, to controlling your AC! All you have to do is make sure you’ve properly set up the services or devices you wish to use with Alexa, and this is what we are here for!

How to Set Up the Ambi Climate Amazon Alexa Smart Home Skill

The official Smart Home skill is now LIVE and public – here’s what you need to get started:

  • The Amazon Alexa app (iOS or Android)
  • An Ambi Climate account and at least one connected device
  • Make sure your Amazon Alexa app and device are running on the same WiFi
  • Search for “Ambi Climate Smart Home” under Skills and enable the skill
    • When logging in, please use your Ambi Climate login credentials!

Next, you will need to discover your device/s! You can do this either by:

  1. Asking Alexa: “Alexa, discover my devices”.
  2. Adding a device through the Smart Home Devices menu.
  3. Adding a device through the Smart Home Skill settings for the Ambi Climate: Smart Home skill.

FAQ and Tips

  • With the Smart Home skill you can turn your air conditioner on or off, using Manual Mode only. If you have just one device, simply say “Alexa, turn the AC on/off”. If you have more than one device, you will need to specify the device name you’re referring to, and say “Alexa, turn bedroom on” or “Alexa, turn off study”, for example.
  • You can change your temperature unit from Celsius to Fahrenheit and vice versa through the Measurement Settings of your Alexa device.
  • You can change the device name within the Smart Home Devices screen (you can also do this through the Ambi Climate app, but don’t have to).
  • We are working on adding a revamped, improved Custom Skill to allow for more commands such as feedback, usage of Smart Modes, and more. Please stay tuned for this!

Hi, I’m enjoying to use Ambi every day!
Do you have a plan to add the skill in Japan? It will be great if we can use it!

  2. Steve Greenley says:

I’m in New Zealand. I can’t seem to find Ambi Climate in the Smart Home Skills list.

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi Steve!
We’re currently under review to add the skill in NZ – hopefully it will be quick! In the meantime if you’d like to use it you can always switch to the US or UK version as it is already active there.

  3. Richard says:

The Alexa integration works well, but it is difficult to know what command words will be recognized. For example “Alexa, ask Ambi to turn on the a.c. in bedroom” works. But, if I say “Alexa, ask Ambi to turn on the heat in bedroom”, it turns on the a.c.

Can you publish an ongoing list of commands on your blog so we know what can be said and how to say it? Again, for example, not all commands are Alexa, Ask Ambi + command. There is also Alexa, tell Ambi it’s cold.

    Thank you.

    • Ambi Climate says:

By the way, for now, while we prepare the changes and the list, you can also get a list of commands by invoking “Alexa, launch Ambi” or “Alexa, ask Ambi for help”. Hope this helps!

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi Richard!
Thank you for your comment. We are currently in the process of improving the skill and the attached commands, to make it easier for users to control Ambi using Alexa. We hear you and are working on it! Once we implement the changes we will create a list of all possible commands and update this blog post to include the link. Please make sure to check back soon for the update!

  4. Ali says:

    Hello,

Thank you for achieving this milestone. We are looking for Smartthings and Google Assistant integration.

    Best luck.
    Regards,

  5. Necdet Ersoy says:

Did you guys test this skill before publishing it? It has not worked properly once. Alexa doesn’t recognize the words, it does not even recognize Ambi. I had same problems as the users above and it is not an Alexa issue as it understands the words quite well in other skills

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi Necdet,
First off, let me apologize for the frustration this is causing you. I totally get it and want to let you know it’s very important for us to investigate this matter, as we’re endlessly working to make the Ambi+Alexa experience better. We’d like to see exactly what happens and dig into the issue – I’ve arranged for someone in our support team to handle this, so we can work this out together. Could you please email us at support@ambiclimate.com? Thank you and sorry again!

  6. Vincent Tang says:

I successfully enable the skill but never discover the AmbiClimate 2 in the Smart Home page. I also find that it is not categorised as a Smart Home skill. Can you do a video demo to teach how it works with Alexa?

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi Vincent,
Thanks for your comment. We are always working to improve the skill and perfect it. We will do our best to create a video once the skill is better implemented!

  7. David Robert McLaughlin says:

This does not work very well. I have serious issues getting it to recognise the names I use. Anything with more than 1 word, eg Bedroom 2, doesn’t get detected too well and it says no device called bedroom and ignores the 2. I have HA-Bridge on my home automation and that works 99% of the time so it’s not a voice recognition issue.

    • Ambi Climate says:

      Hi David!
First off, let me say I’m sorry you’ve experienced some trouble with the Alexa integration. Normally we haven’t seen issues with 2-word device names (e.g. Meeting Room, Kids Room), which we’ve tested in the past. We just ran a test and seems that Alexa may be confused with the word “Two”/”Too”, which is why it tries to affect “Bedroom” and then fails. What we would suggest is changing the device name; this will most likely solve the issue – please let us know if this worked for you and if you have any other questions don’t hesitate!

      • Herman says:

Same issue here. After change device name to single word : “Bedroom” without any space, it can be recognized for command. Although when using two words “Bed room” Alexa recognized available device but can not deploy command

        • Ambi Climate says:

Hi Herman, sorry to hear about this bit of trouble – we’re always working to perfect the integration and make it as seamless as possible for our users. Sometimes it’s a matter of semantics Alexa doesn’t recognize, who knows! Glad to hear you were able to resolve this though.
